Troop #20245 Rallies Together to Collect Donations for Local Homeless

When girls give back to their communities, they learn things like compassion, community service, and the impact they have on other people. And that's why we love to see our Girl Scouts prioritizing the needs of others.

The girls in Troop #20245 are showing exemplary community service by collecting travel-size toiletries to make toiletry bags for local homeless individuals. By requesting donations on discussion boards and reaching out to local residents and friends, the girls have seen an amazing response to their efforts.

Tara, one of the Troop's leaders, said, "We've received donations from scores of local residents, including a dentist and the girls' K-2 principal. One of the local people who responded to a social media post is an executive producer for CBS News, and she loved the idea so much that she's sending a reporter to the girls' meeting on Friday so she can interview the girls while they assemble the kits!"

The girls will be assembling their kits on Friday, November 20th and will be including personalized notes and stickers to decorate. The Troop is expected to put together about 200 complete kits the completed kits (and any additional items that were donated in surplus) to Bridges Outreach, an organization which delivers food and other essentials to homeless individuals in Irvington, Newark, New York City, and Summit, New Jersey.

Great work, Troop #20245!
