Two Girl Scouts, Two Big Honors

What do you get when you put two animal lovers together and face them with an issue in the animal world? A Girl Scout Bronze Award and a proclamation from the Mayor!

For their Bronze Award project, Mika Santiago and Megan Freeman from Troop #20284 focused their efforts on helping animals in Bloomfield, NJ and neighboring communities by educating people about the importance of spaying and neutering pets. The girls also made dog and cat toys, which they handed out at adoption events hosted by PAWS rescue in Montclair, NJ, and organized a successful pet food and supply drive.

Their community service efforts don't stop there. Over the years, the girls from Troop #20284 have volunteered at nursing homes and park clean-up days. They've also collected donations for the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, Hurricane Sandy Relief, United Way of Bloomfield, and packed food for hurricane survivors in Haiti.

Both Mika and Megan earned their Bronze Award in August 2015 and received proclamations saluting the girls from the Mayor of Bloomfield on November 2, 2015.

Keep up the great work!
