Program Feature: Market Mavens!

Have you ever heard anyone talk about Girl Scout pathways? It’s what Girl Scouts of the United States of America (or GSUSA for short!) call the different ways that girls can participate in Girl Scouts. Here at GSHNJ, we are really excited to explore a new pathway this spring – the virtual one! Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors can join in the fun for our new Market Mavens program which is happening completely online!

Do you know the difference between a stock and a bond? Are the terms “debenture," “liquidation," and “yearlings” all Greek to you? Don’t worry! After taking a short webinar, participants will be familiar with the basics of the stock market and ready to set up their virtual portfolio. We’ll be using the website Market Watch and will have our very own game so that girls from all over the council can play together.

Understanding the stock market and how to build an investment portfolio is an important step into financial literacy. Since Market Watch mimics everything happening in the real stock market, players have the chance to stay up to date with real world financials!

Did we mention that there are prizes? The player with the highest rank on both games–Junior-Cadette and Senior-Ambassador–wins!

Since this program is completely virtual, it is up to each player how often she monitors her portfolio – change it by the day, or choose some favorites and ride out the stock market wave. Totally up to you!

Registration is open until March 20th so don’t miss out–join in the fun today! The games begin on April 1st.
