Congratulations to the Winners of Market Mavens!

Understanding the stock market and how to build an investment portfolio is an important step into financial literacy. Since Market Watch mimics everything happening in the real stock market, players have the chance to stay up to date with real world financials!

Itching to know how our girls did with our first virtual program, Market Mavens? Roxie, our Program Specialist, breaks down the winners and Kacey, who took first place, explains her experience learning the stock market!

As some readers may remember, April marked GSHNJ’s first virtual program, Market Mavens! Over 30 girls from all over our council participated in the month-long stock market game and we are excited to announce our two winners: Kacey M. with an overall gain of $18,200 and Emily C. with an overall gain of $5,800 – congratulations girls!

We asked Kacey to share her thoughts on what it was like to participate in the program:

“I signed up for Market Watch to learn a bit more about the stock market and how it works," Kacey explains. "I had no clue about how the stock markets work until I played it. We learned the rules of the game by listening to the webinar. Since you use real stocks with their real incomes, I suggest thinking about your experiences in real life to get an idea of what stocks are a good idea, like this: “[insert well-known company] has been doing [good or bad] lately, so I think that it will change its price [lower or higher] to do better.” Chances are, it will win you the game! In all, it’s a very fun game that is good to use to learn a bit about how the stock market works.”

Thanks to all of our mavens for playing!
