30 Days of Good Deeds: Troop Collects Supplies for Guatemalan Village
Community service is a big part about being a Girl Scout. Not only are you helping your community grow, but it's a great feeling to be able to give back both locally and abroad. Brownie Troop #40007 from Kenilworth decided they wanted to do their part for a city in Guatemala by participating in a community service project that would benefit the village's inhabitants. Keep reading to find out why it was so special for them to help out the Central American country.
One of the Brownies in Kenilworth Troop #40007 was adopted from Guatemala, so the Brownies asked their leaders about sending supplies to an area in need in Guatemala as a service project.
The 13 girls decided that their troop would hold a toothpaste and toothbrush drive as these things are luxury items in a large part of Guatemala. On December 6th, they collected over 1,000 pieces to be distributed to the people of Santa Maria Ixhuatan, a municipality in the Santa Rosa section of Guatemala. With help from a mission groupwhose main focus is to assist under-served villages in Guatemala, these much-needed supplies were distributed to the village.
Is your Troop doing something amazing? Do you know a Girl Scout who is making a change in her community? Fill out this easy form to submit your Good Deed!
