It's Financial Literacy Month!

April showers bring May flowers, but it also brings Financial Literacy Month! We can't think of a better group who know how to celebrate Financial Literacy quite like Girl Scouts.

Every year, Girl Scouts support the largest girl-run business in the worldthe Girl Scout Cookie Sale. Everyone enjoys having fun at booth sales with friends, delivering cookies to family and neighbors, and earning cool incentives, but the cookie sale also allows girls to learn important financial skills.

Through discussing what troops want to do with their proceeds, girls are able to learn the skill of DECISION MAKING.

Girls are then able to learn GOAL SETTING when they determine how much money they will need to earn in order to do all sorts of fun things with their proceeds.

Once they set their goal, girls can learn PEOPLE SKILLS by talking to customers at booth sales. They learn BUSINESS ETHICS when they are honest and fair in not overcharging customers for cookies.

When the money starts rolling in, girls are educated on MONEY MANAGEMENT. They begin keeping track of how much money they have, how much they need to earn to reach their goals, and how to count change when they're out selling.

Check out our resources section with tips and activities to get the most out of your first business!
